Laura Roberts has over 30 years of animal handling experience, over 15 years of teaching experience, and almost a decade of working with tegus. Originally attending the University of Florida as an Animal Science major with an emphasis on pre-veterinary studies, she worked as a veterinary assistant and medical research assistant, volunteering in Equine Neonatology in the evenings. Later, she transferred to the University of Central Florida where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Cardiopulmonary Sciences. She is currently enrolled in Whitefield Theological Seminary finishing her Masters degree in Education, learning many ways to improve the methods for teaching science. She has been trained as a Project Wild educator by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. She continues to work with that entity to remain permitted to own captive wildlife and as a FWC volunteer researching wild tegus in Central Florida. She has also volunteered with 4H and the Central Florida Zoo, always seeking more knowledge about nature. When she is not teaching, she is spending time with her family, caring for her animals, working in her wildlife education business (Zoo Mom Science), writing for Reptiles magazine, moderating several tegu Internet groups, and researching tegus continuously. Laura currently owns 12 adult tegus and 12 juveniles. She has been fortunate enough to breed these amazing reptiles and share them with others.
